Robinson Nielsen, or Robby as he is better known, is from Washington DC. Robby grew up playing golf. It is easy to see that it is a big part of who he is, and why has always wanted to play at the collegiate level. Being part of the golf team with Robby, I have seen a fun, quirky, and yet determined side of the incoming freshman. He has a personality that meshes well with everyone, he works hard to be the best golfer he can be, and a good asset to the team.

After his first year at college Robby plans to take a 2-year break to pursue a mission for his church and faith. Robby shared a scripture with our team before one of our matches: “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us”(Romans 8:18). After sharing this with the team, he said,

“I love this scripture because it can relate to all aspects of my life. Just adding the little things and doing what I’m supposed to even when I don’t want to will allow me to see my total potential that Christ sees in me”.

In Robby’s free time, he spends time outside going hiking, fishing, bridge jumping, biking and of course golfing. He is outgoing and likes to meet new people and make new friends. In his first tournament, Robby came out swinging and fired a 73 in his first round. Robby plans to graduate in 2029 after completing his mission. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the goals of Southern Virginia University and Robby are aligned. The university offers Robby a place to learn, grow his testimony, and practice his sport. Robby is hard-working and outgoing, keep an eye out for him around campus, the golf course, and in his upcoming tournaments.
