My favorite part about being a student at Southern Virginia University is meeting people from all over the world. I have been blessed to find friends that grew up 10 miles away from me and friends from far away places like Argentina and Brazil. One of these friends is Nahuel Recabarren (‘22), a three time All-American in men’s volleyball at Southern Virginia University.

Recabarren is a 6’2” outside hitter from San Juan, Argentina. As an outside hitter, Recabarren hits off the left side of the court and is the team’s main source of firepower. After his first season in 2017, Recabarren quickly asserted dominance as he finished the season, being second in total kills (223) and kills per set (3.19).

However, Recabarren wasn’t satisfied, and blew his freshman year out of the water with his stats over the next three years. Recabarren broke 700 kills over the 2019, 2020 and 2021 seasons (despite the 2020 and 2021 seasons being shortened).

His success in these seasons led him to be named a first team AVCA All-American for three consecutive years.

With 2022 being his senior season, Recabarren is leaving a mark on the school, with 167 total kills and a .311% hitting percentage and 1111 career kills so far.

The week of Feb. 21, Recabarren was named the AVCA national player of the week after accomplishing 42 total kills and a .456% hitting percentage over just two games in a one week period.

Currently staying well on track to earn his fourth All-American honors, Recabarren is a force to be reckoned with on the court.

Off the court, Nahuel is an incredibly talented photographer who works in both analog and digital photography. With a very interesting photography style, Recabarren is able to portray various emotions through utilizing creative light manipulation. You can checkout his work here.
