Gaining a college education definitely follows the principle “you get out what you put in.” With long days in class rooms and nights full of homework, college can be exhausting and lead to extreme boredom. This is a major problem because it affects our abilities as students to learn and has a major impact on our grades. Talking with other fellow students we have come up with ways to make this upcoming Spring semester a productive and enjoyable one.

Get involved

The first way to make sure that this Spring semester is one to remember is by getting involved in every way possible. Spring time offers countless opportunities to do so with sporting events, clubs, and classes. Some of the sports that are in season during spring are lacrosse, baseball, and men’s volleyball. There are countless clubs available to be a part of. I highly recommend checking out this article by Jeremy Brown to find which clubs are best to join!

Another great way to get involved is simply by applying yourself in the classroom. As fun as Clash of Clans is, time will go by quicker if you will participate in class. One of my favorite classes that I have right now is from 7–10 at night and only has 5 people in it. This allows for us all to be able to contribute and learn more as a group which makes the three hours enjoyable instead of boring.

Looking for unique classes to join? A fantastic class to take that will be offered this Spring is Coach Garner’s Golf class. You learn the fundamentals and techniques to truly better your golf game. This class is a blast and you get to practice at The Ranch Golf Course right here in Buena Vista.

Get out

The Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington D.C.

Looking for activities outside of what the school provides? Spring semester is full of fun and unique opportunities that are must do’s! If you have access to a car, drive to Washington D.C. and go check out the Cherry Blossom Festival. This Festival is absolutely stunning and will definitely be worth your time. After you check out the Cherry Blossom Festival, make sure to check out all of the many concerts that will be happening this year in Richmond!

Do you want to show off your athletic skills? This May is the perfect time to do so with the Road & River Relay that is happening on May 6 in Rockbridge County. This is a 16.1 mile course that includes running, cycling, and paddling. There is also a Bull and Oyster Fest that is happening on April 1, which will have BBQ, oysters, and live music!

Lexington, Virginia | Natural wonders, great American leaders, and…

Devil’s Marbleyard and St. Mary’s Falls

If festivals are not your thing then that’s totally fine. We are surrounded by many great places to go hiking such as the Devil’s Marbleyard and Saint Mary’s falls. When you need a break from school get a group of friends and get into the fresh Virginia air.

This Spring semester don’t be afraid to get involved in every way possible and make sure to get out and let loose on some of the many events that are happening!
