I recently had the opportunity to spend a few minutes getting to know Hannah Sorensen, who was kind enough to let me distract her from her homework to do a five-minute interview!

Hannah is a first-semester freshman who grew up in Utah. Around the time of her freshman year of high school, she and her family moved to Maryland. Hannah learned about SVU from an older cousin who attended a couple decades ago and recommended it. Though she initially did not plan on attending SVU, she decided to take a tour of the school which led to her enrollment. When I asked about her first impression of the university, she said, “It’s definitely very small, but it’s cool. It seems like everyone’s super friendly and even if you don’t know people, they still seem inviting.”

Hannah has a lot of interests. Though she has not declared a major, she is considering going into family and human development and has considered a career in counseling. She has also considered sports therapy. Her goal is to help people. “I’d love to go to another country and build houses for people and just do that for the rest of my life,” Hannah Says. “That’d be so sick.”

In terms of hobbies, Hannah is the outdoorsy type. She enjoys hiking, bike rides, woodworking, and construction (a hobby she and her dad both enjoy). She also mentioned that she is taking a beginners’ boxing class and expressed an interest in wrestling.

I really enjoyed getting to know a little bit about Hannah. If you share any of her interests, be sure to say hello if you see her around campus!
