Men’s and Women’s Tennis Seasons Come To An End

By Adam Kelly

Southern Virginia’s men’s and women’s 2023 tennis season came to an end on April 27. Despite the ending of their season, there were a lot of highlights throughout the season and many individual achievements.

Men’s Tennis

Heading into the USA South conference tournament hosted by NC Wesleyan, the men’s team was seeded number two (an automatic semi-final spot against Pfeiffer). Despite beating Pfeiffer a week prior, the men’s team lost a close match with the final score of 4-5.

It was not the finish we wanted but at the end of it all, we as a team reflected on the season and we’re confident to say that we left it all out on the court. We as a team grew pretty close and there were many highlights of the season.”

Individual Awards:

  • Marcos Dias earned multiple player of the year awards and also earned a doubles team of the week with his partner Ethan Campbell. Dias earned a spot on the All-Conference 1st team
  • Ethan Campbell earned a spot on the All-Conference 2nd team.
  • Thomas Christensen won All-Sportsman Award

Women’s Tennis

The women earned a spot in the semi-finals as well but fell to Methodist University. With many big wins, the team grew very close. With most of the team returning, plus incoming freshmen, the women’s team has high expectations for next season.

Individual Awards

  • Paula Snelson won the USA South Conference Player of the Year Award and was selected to the All-Conference 1st team.
  • Campbell Bueler earned a spot on the All-Conference first team as well and also was selected for the All Sportsmanship award.

Both the men and the women achieved many goals including top-3 finishes in the USA South Conference. They gave it their all and are looking forward to next season.
