Straws has been a great addition to Buena Vista! Southern Virginia students and the Buena Vista community are fortunate to support and enjoy delicious (and affordable) drinks and snacks. The workers at Straws aspire to connect the town of Buena Vista by hosting events and staying connected to the town. In doing this, Straws has helped make downtown Buena Vista more lively and has provided a hang-out place for many children after school.

Since they’ve been open, Straws has been hosting live events such as open mic nights and hosting musical performances.

“I had the privilege to perform at Straws last December with my band, The Collars. Greg and everyone else who worked there were so easy to work with. They took some risks in having us, as they had never had a full rock band with a drum kit play there before then, but the night turned out better than I ever could’ve hoped. I really think their willingness to showcase a wide array of musical and visual artists is helping to foster an excitement for the arts in Buena Vista,” Carter Gorham, Southern Virginia student.

It’s that willingness that Carter talked about that has made Straws the place to be. There are many talented musicians at Southern Virginia University, and Straws wants to incorporate that into their shop. I was fortunate enough to perform with Carter and I can attest to the wonderful night. There was a good crowd and everyone was enjoying the music!

If you are someone who enjoys music, game nights, and other fun activities, stay tuned for weekly events at Straws.
