Is Greece The Perfect Spring Break Location?

By William Stanton

Spring Break is the one week all college students look forward to as it’s the last break before the most stressful part of the semester. While many students plan trips to the sunny beaches on the coast, I would prefer a more scenic trip. A week in Greece with a group of friends would be my ideal spring break. Taking a ten hour flight to another continent with relaxing views and delicious food? I’m in!

Spending as much time as possible in another country makes the trip worth it; you don’t have to rush through everything and you get to see everything there is to offer. If this was my trip, I would hop on a plane Saturday morning, and arrive in Athens, Greece on Sunday. Athens was once part of one of the most powerful civilizations in ancient times and still has so much history that we would be able to see.

After spending a few days in Athens, I would take another flight to the tiny island of Zakynthos (where the famous shipwreck beach is) and admire the views from up above the 650-foot cliffs. I would also want to take a boat ride right onto the beach where the wrecked ship rests. After traveling Zakynthos, I would leave at least three days for the island with arguably the most picture perfect scenery in the world, Santorini. Santorini would be the highlight of just about anybody’s trip to Greece as people from all corners of the world make their way to Greece for this specific island.

Watching the sunset in Oia, the most famous part of the island, would be a must for every night spent on the island. Many visitors flock to Oia Castle to watch as the sun dips below the blue horizon, but the most famous spot is the three blue domes of Oia, which I have put puzzles together of this exact scenic site. How many times will you be visiting Greece? Probably not many more times than once, so I would most definitely get a Airbnb with a patio pool to watch the sunset from, no matter the price.

Spending a week in a foreign country with a group of friends, eating delicious Greek food, exploring all of the ancient buildings, sculptures, art and history the country has to offer, and relaxing, cinematic, oceanside views would be my ideal spring break. What would be your ideal spring break location?
