My Favorite Super Bowl Commercials That You Should Watch Right Now

By: Jake Harmon

Every February, excitement seems to be all around as the Super Bowl approaches. Even for someone like me who doesn’t love sports, there are parts of the Super Bowl I look forward to; the commercials. It is always a big push for companies to get out there and show off (and a spendy one too). Because of the price for each commercial, it isn’t surprising that we are given some of the best commercials during the event. Below are the three that I found the most entertaining!

1. Super Mario Bros.

If you are unaware, Super Mario Bros. is coming out with a movie on April 7. To highlight this new movie, their Super Bowl Illumination went above and beyond To create a timeless commercial. Many original fans will recognize the tune of the commercial’s song because it is a reference to the original Super Mario Super Show (see below for reference)!

In line with having a timeless commercial, the distressed female character in the Super Bowl ad is the original voice actress for Princess Toadstool (now known as Princess Peach). This ad went above and beyond fan’s expectations with a working phone number for calls and texts that direct you to a working website for the beloved Mario Bros plumbing business!

2. Why not an EV?

A vast majority of companies teamed up this year to create ad campaigns for this years Super Bowl. Both General Motors and Netflix teamed up with Will Ferrell to advertise their partnership. With this partnership, Netflix plans to include more electric vehicles (EV) in their shows/movies. It is fun to watch Ferrell work his magic, driving around in an EV and interacting with zombies, Squid games, an Abby, characters from Stranger Things, and even rescuing a runaway bride! It was a funny and unexpected crossover that I was more than happy to enjoy.

3. “Actually, it’s a Blue Moon Commercial”

The above commercial was another unexpected combination. This ad was like the Avengers Endgame of beer commercials with Coors Light, Miller Light, and (of course) Blue Moon. The scene started off very normal until it suddenly exploded with an expertly choreographed fighting scene between the two beer lovers. With this extended version, you get to see the full beauty of this cheesy fight that you wouldn’t normally expect from a beer commercial. Then, you get hit with a plot twist.

There are plenty more commercials to check out, especially some creepy ones with bunnies. But, the highlighted ads above were my top three favorites. It is always a treat to see what companies come up with and this year didn’t disappoint. Thank goodness we didn’t end up with another puppy monkey baby.
