This round of candy matchups was even more crazy than the last. Some very heavily favored teams were bounced out last week. I’m back to give you a recap of the top three wildest matchups from last week and preview the upcoming Elite 8 week.

The first upset of the week occurred on the very first day of voting. Nerds (the number one seed from the fruity candy) was knocked out 25-19 by Laffy Taffy. Call me Nostradamus because I predicted that upset last week. However, even with my prediction, I held out hope that Nerds would take that victory. Laffy Taffy is looking really strong with two commanding victories. But they will be put to the test this week in an unfavorable Reese’s Pieces matchup.

Next, we have to mention possibly the biggest upset in the whole tournament. Reese’s was eliminated 28-18 by Twix. I knew that this would be the biggest matchup of the whole tournament, but I did not think Twix had what it takes to upset a powerhouse like Reese’s. After a dominant 40-1 victory in the first round, I thought Reese’s was a lock to make it to the semi-finals. They just came out stagnant and too cocky, now they are headed home.

Finally, the most exciting matchup of the week was the Caramel Apple Sucker vs. Sour Patch Kids contest. Caramel Apple Suckers were an exciting pick coming into this tournament. An often forgotten candy, but much loved one, had high hopes that they could make a deep run. Their hopes however, were crushed by a solid Sour Patch Kids team. In a competitive 26-17 bout, the veteran Sour Patch Kids team was able to hush the outside noise and prove that they mean business.

All-in-all, this was a very exciting round. There was only one major blowout (Fun-Dip’s Cinderella story ended harshly), and the rest were all very closely contested games. From here on out, it looks like we are going to see a lot of close back and forth matchups. Make sure to watch out for the Sour Patch Kids and Skittles matchup this week. Two loveable, fruity and chewy candies duking it out head to head.
