Homecoming weekend is a favorite for Southern Virginia alumni and students. As crimson outfits can be seen all around, and alumni cheer with pride, Homecoming weekend offers fun and excitement for the whole town of Buena Vista.
Homecoming weekend starts this Friday, Oct. 14. To kickstart activities, Homecoming Forum will start at 11a.m. in the Stoddard Center. From there, women’s soccer will play at the Knight’s Stadium against Pfeiffer University, as well Knight’s rugby at The Fields against Queen’s University. Both games will start at 6 p.m.. To conclude the events on Friday, there will be a historic choir concert “I Long to See You,” celebrating more than 25 years of choral excellence. The concert will feature a special piece from former choral conductors.
Kicking off events on Saturday, there will be an alumni family tailgate behind the Kimball Student Center. Lunch for alumni and family, along with bouncy houses and yard games, will be provided . Following the tailgate, the Knight’s football team will compete against Maryville College at 1 p.m. at the Knight’s Stadium (wearing crimson is encouraged).
“I’m excited to be playing in the homecoming game because home games are always fun to play in. Homecoming is a fun time of year. Everyone is always rowdy, excited for the game, and the crowd is always livid (which makes the game so much better),” Maikeli Tui (’26) — Defensive Line.
Shortly after the football game, men’s soccer will face off against Methodist University at Knight’s Stadium at 5p.m. Lastly, to conclude Homecoming events, there will be a carnival at the Walnut Field. Put on by Student Life, the carnival will go from 7 p.m.- 10p.m.. The carnival will provide free carnival treats, along with many fun activities such as bounce houses, rock walls, mechanical bulls, prizes, and more. This event will be open to all students and families.
