What Will You Be For Halloween?

By Paula Feitosa

With Halloween around the corner, having a good costume is imperative. While it’s easy to buy your costumes at the store, they’re normally semi-expensive. Even when there are cheap costumes for sale, the risk of someone else dressing the same is too high. Because we’re all broke college students, I thought it would be useful to share some cool, creative, and cheap D.I.Y. costumes. Below, there are several costumes for groups, singles, and couples. Whether you use these exact costumes, or use them for inspiration for a new costume, we hope you like the options below!

Scuba Diver

If you’re looking for something simple, and happen to go through a lot of soda bottles, this costume is the perfect option. This simple, yet crafty, costume is cost effective and will get you compliments all throughout the night!

Mummy

Do you still have 1-ply toilet paper from 2020 that you’re dying to get rid of? This costume is great for that! Using toilet paper (or scarves), this costume gives you the opportunity to go all out (or not, if you’re not into dressing up).

Assorted Candy

While often overdone, choosing to do candy as your costume is great for large groups or teams. With the simplicity of just a colored t-shirt (and maybe a paper on your chest), this costume is perfect for everyone (even the un-crafty).

Sick and Tired

How many times a day do you say “I’m so tired?” Using a play on words, this costume perfectly represents the average college student; sick and tired.

Athletes

Almost all of the students at Southern Virginia are athletes. So, why not embrace it! Dressing up for your sport (or another, like pictured below) is quick and easy, requiring little effort.

Ghost

Being a ghost for Halloween is a classic (and super simple)! All you need is some shades and a white sheet. And, when you’re done celebrating Halloween, you can have a ghost photoshoot!
