The Autumn Season: Activities & More

Elijah Tasini

Fall is in the air. As the green fades, other colors like red, orange, yellow, and brown start to appear around Southern Virginia. The nights are becoming longer, and cooler, and everything is becoming pumpkin, pumpkinpumpkin!

Buena Vista may be small, but Southern Virginia University is the best part of this town. You might think that there isn’t much to do, but there is plenty to do around Buena Vista and Southern Virginia.

To kick off the fall season, here is a list of what will take place at Southern Virginia for the month of October. To enjoy this beautiful season more, be engaged with all the fun activities and open to the new adventures provided by Student Life!

Oct. 6 — Hull’s Drive-in Movie Night

Going to the movies is fun, but watching a film at the drive-in is a different vibe than your living room. Grab your friends, squish them in a car, and head over to Lexington (safely). Top Gun: Maverick is the movie for the night, starting at 8 p.m. Bring yourself, a friend (or a date) and enjoy a free movie.

Oct. 10–14 — Pumpkin Patch

Looking forward to carving or decorating a pumpkin? Come to the front of the Academic Center and pick up a free pumpkin. You can show up anytime during the day for pumpkin picking, esthetic photos, and more. However, the pumpkin patch will finish around 9 p.m. every night.

Oct. 15 — Homecoming Carnival

After the homecoming games at Knight’s Stadium, come out to the Walnut practice-field and enjoy Southern Virginia’s Student Life Carnival Night. Starting at 6 p.m., the Carnival will offer treats and activites for students who attend (there might even be a mechanical bull). The Carnival is set to end at 10 p.m., so get there before it’s too late!

Oct. 22 — Fall Formal: Roaring 20’s

Get your groove on during Southern Virginia’s Fall Formal. Wearing your best outfits, and dancing shoes, enjoy a night full of music and dance moves. This years Formal theme is roaring 20’s. So, all you bims and bimbos (20’s slang), get ready! The dance starts at 9 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m..

Oct. 29 — Halloween Skate Night

Starting at 8 p.m., Southern Virginia students can show off their Halloween costumes and skate moves in the same night. Student Life will be hosting this event until 11 p.m.. Show your appreciation towards the Student Life crew by attending this event and get your skate on!
